Beer, Wine, and Liquor of the Month: Our September Picks

September has a way of making everything feel a little more intentional. School is back in session, the calendar fills up, routines return, and everyone is savoring those last few precious summer evenings.

There’s plenty happening this time of year, from Labor Day weekend and football watch parties to dinner with friends and tailgates parties. Whatever’s on your calendar, a good drink has a way of making any occasion feel a little more special — and RSVP is here to help you find the perfect one.

This month we’re featuring a Märzen Lager from Baxter Brewing, a French orange wine, and a liquor made from fresh Maine rhubarb.

September Beer, Wine, and Liquor of the Month

Our September Beer of the Month is Baxter’s Oktoberfest, a 5.5% Märzen Lager. This malty, amber, European lager is flawlessly smooth, and a staple of the Oktoberfest held each year in Munich, Germany. It’s traditionally brewed in March and drunk throughout the summer and fall. Baxter’s Oktoberfest pairs perfectly with grilled brats, smoked meat, and — of course — pretzels!  4-packs of 16 oz cans are available for $13.99 OR 6-packs of 12 oz cans are available for $13.99.

Côté Mas Orange Wine is our September Wine of the Month. From the Languedoc region of

France, this wine has a soft orange color with copper highlights. It features complex aromas of citrus with notes of white flowers and candied fruit. On the palate, you’ll notice tangerine and spices and a tannic mouthfeel — with a slight acidity. Perfect for summer nights, bottles of Côté Mas Orange Wine are available for $12.99 each.

Our September Liquor of the Month is Sweetgrass Farm Rhubarb Smash, a liqueur made with Maine rhubarb and elderberries, right here in Maine. Bottles are available for $21.49.

Cocktail of the Month

Rhubarb and Rye Sour

This month’s cocktail recipe features our liquor of the month, Sweetgrass Farm’s Rhubarb Smash, and New England Distilling’s Gunpowder Rye Whiskey.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. Gunpowder Rye Whiskey
  • .5 oz. Sweetgrass Farm Rhubarb Smash
  • .25 oz. Lemon Juice
  • .5 oz. Rhubarb Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz. House Sour
  • 1 stick of Rhubarb for garnish

Fill a shaker with ice, then add all of the ingredients. Shake vigorously for a few seconds, then strain into a coupe glass. Sink ¼ oz rhubarb syrup into the coupe bottom. Pull a piece of rhubarb from a rhubarb stick (like you would pull string cheese). Wrap the ribbon around your finger and place it at the edge of the glass as a garnish.
